The Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sport Association is pleased to announce that Paralympic medalists, Andrea Cole and Paul Gauthier were the recipients of the 2005 Janet Dunn Award.

Andrea Cole won silver and bronze medals in swimming at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. She currently trains at the London Aquatic Club and she is a student at the University of Western Ontario. "Andrea's love of swimming is obvious", said her coach, Andrew Craven. "Her joy in the water is always in evidence, she is dedicated to her training as no other, and her enthusiasm is infectious and rubs off on her teammates". She was also a member of the Canadian team at the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games where she won a gold and silver medal.

Paul Gauthier, of Vancouver, won the first-ever Canadian gold medal in boccia at the 2004 Paralympic Games. He also won bronze medal with his partner, Alison Kabush, of Surrey, in pairs. They were also bronze medalists in pairs at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney. Prior to Athens, Gauthier was an athlete ambassador for the Canadian Paralympic Committee. His responsibilities included public speaking and media relations to raise public awareness of elite Paralympians. Gauthier is also the Athlete Representative on the board of CCPSA, where he has worked hard to raise the profile of athletes within the association and bring athlete issues to the forefront.

This award is given annually to one female and one male athlete who show both excellence in sport and a contribution to sport for athletes with cerebral palsy and related disabilities. Nominees for this award must be current CCPSA National Team members, or have been on the National Team within the last four years. Janet Dunn was a founding member of CCPSA and a dedicated coach, classifier and mentor to many athletes. Upon her retirement from the CCPSA Board of Directors, the Board established the Janet Dunn Award for CCPSA athletes. Ms. Dunn is still involved in sport as a coach and an international classifier.
