Dan Griffin, Sudan Advisor
 

As the CRS Sudan Advisor, Dan Griffin serves as the primary contact between Catholic Relief Services’ headquarters in Baltimore and staff on the ground in Sudan. In this role, he also leads CRS’ Sudan-related advocacy efforts and supports grassroots education, awareness raising and local advocacy efforts throughout the United States.

A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dan began his career in international development serving as a Maryknoll Lay Missioner in Tanzania from 1992 to 2000. In 2001, he joined CRS as the Sudan Policy Advisor at headquarters, helping the agency to establish a strategy for related advocacy. He then served as Regional Representative for East Africa and later the Horn of Africa, coordinating activities between headquarters and relevant field offices. In August 2006, Dan returned to Africa as Head of Programming for CRS Tanzania. While serving in this role, he oversaw a period of considerable growth for HIV and agricultural initiatives in the country and drove efforts to improve project integration and partner relationships. In August 2008, Dan returned to headquarters to reprise his current position.

                       

Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Human Ecology from Regis University in Denver. He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife Lisa and his three children Grace, Anne and Joseph.

 

Tom Bamat, Peacebuilding Advisor

  

Tom Bamat is the Senior Advisor on Justice and Peacebuilding at Catholic Relief Services (CRS). He provides programming, proposal and evaluation support as well as promoting CRS’ global peace and justice strategy.  A sociologist (Ph.D. Rutgers, 1977), he has lived and worked in the Andes and Brazil, and was formerly a Regional Advisor for Latin America and the Caribbean. Tom serves on the Board of the Life and Peace Institute based in Uppsala, Sweden and the Steering Committee of the Catholic Peacebuilding Network. He has published work on human rights, religious movements, popular Catholicism and peacebuilding, including the co-edited volumes Artisans of Peace (Orbis, 2003) and Pursuing Just Peace (CRS, 2008).
