Learn to Sail - Silver VI, Learn to Race & Gold VII

Recommended Ages: Silver and Gold - 14 and up; Learn to Race - varies depending on club or school

Prerequisites: Bronze V

Description: After completing the Bronze programs, sailors wishing to learn about competitive sailing may take Silver or Learn to Race.  These programs are very similar; Silver is in the old program and Learn to Race is in the new CBET program.  As CYA changes all of its programs to CBET, an equivalent to Gold will be established as well.

Silver and Learn to Race introduce racing techniques and concepts to sailors wishing to explore competitive sailing.  Instructors will teach sailors starting techniques, racing tactics and racing theory.  Some clubs and schools offer Learn to Race programs for younger sailors in Optimist dinghies.

After completing Silver VI, sailors can advance to Gold VII, where they learn advanced racing tactics and techniques including sail design and improved sailing techniques.

Silver and Learn to Race are offered at many clubs.  Please email crew@bcsailing.bc.ca if you are interested in taking a Gold course.
